For Marge Jagodzinski, Receptionist at Atria Darien, the most rewarding part of the job is the relationships she builds with residents.
She recalls one moment in particular that highlighted the depth of those bonds. A resident, facing a concerning health issue, was hesitant to go to the hospital. She turned to Marge for guidance, asking, “Marge, do you think I should go?” With Marge’s reassurance, the resident responded, “Okay, Marge, if you say so.”
For Marge, this simple exchange highlights the trust her work fosters and illustrates the importance of the relationships she builds with residents.
Recently, her dedication and care earned her the 2024 Exceptional Service Award, the highest honor within Atria’s family of brands, which recognizes those who consistently go above and beyond serving residents.
“Marge is the welcoming face of our community,” says Amanda Andrews, Executive Director at Atria Darien. “Residents and coworkers rely on her in so many ways. She goes the extra mile to ensure everyone’s well-being, and her impact is felt every day.”
Marge’s journey at Atria Darien began in 2009. She was introduced to the community by her daughter, who was leading fitness classes at the community. Soon, Marge transitioned from part-time employee to full-time receptionist, quickly becoming a cornerstone of the staff.
Trust is at the heart of Atria’s Employee Value Proposition, and Marge exemplifies this through the deep connections she has built with residents and coworkers. These relationships reflect Atria’s commitment to fostering an environment where trust and recognition are central to everything we do.
“Marge is always looking for ways to support the entire team,” Andrews says. “She steps in whenever and however she’s needed, and she radiates positive energy.”
When asked what advice she would give to those beginning a career in senior living, Marge suggests embracing the unique nature of helping older adults during an important phase in their lives.
“In this work, you will develop skills that go far beyond the technical parts of your job,” she says. “Most important, take time to listen, engage and show compassion. It’s the small moments of connection that make a lasting impact, not only on the residents but on you as well.”
Marge’s unwavering dedication to Atria Darien and her willingness to help colleagues and residents has cemented her as an irreplaceable member of the community.
“Marge is truly an amazing asset,” says Andrews. “We’re incredibly fortunate to have her, and no one is more deserving of the Exceptional Service Award.”
