“Being able to volunteer with my fellow coworkers helps me be a better person and be a better employee,” shares Training Specialist Kelsea Washle.
Working Together
The group spent an afternoon planting, mulching, and doing other yard work at a home owned by Dreams with Wings, a nonprofit that provides services and housing for people with developmental disabilities in Atria’s hometown of Louisville, KY. The work created an outdoor oasis for the two men with disabilities who live in the home and made it clear to Kelsea, who grew up with a passion for serving others, that she’s part of the right team.
“Knowing that Atria has similar values to my own validates my choice in working for Atria,” explains Kelsea. “I have worked for companies in the past that say they want to help but never acted on it. It’s a nice change to have this first-hand experience and opportunity to get involved.”
A Shared Mission
The opportunity to get involved didn’t stop with Atria Support Center employees, it included thousands of residents and employees across North America. Atria’s communities came together to plant more than 2,000 trees, setting an example in green practices and being good stewards for future generations.
“We make it a priority to be good neighbors and conscientious stewards of natural resources because it’s the responsible and right thing to do,” said Ryan Sprau, Executive Vice President of Community Operations at Atria. “We invest in sustainable practices because of the grandchildren and the great-great-grandchildren of the 43,000 seniors who call Atria home.”
It’s those sustainable practices and opportunities to serve that make Atria a perfect fit for employees like Kelsea who says, “Atria does a fantastic job in providing a positive workplace culture that makes me excited to come to work every day.”
