For nearly four years, Chef Reggie Jackson has been the heart and soul of the kitchen at Holiday Southwind Heights in Jonesboro, Arkansas. As a Navy veteran and culinary specialist, Chef Jackson brings warmth, engagement and flavorful meals to his community.

Chef Jackson spent seven years in the U.S. Navy, with four years of active duty aboard the USS Philippine Sea. During this time, he discovered his knack for preparing meals on a large scale. “I first got introduced to cooking for big groups in the mess hall,” he recalls. “And later on, I’d always end up cooking for work events – I felt like I was catering,” he adds with a laugh.

His military service refined his organization, efficiency and discipline, which he continues to rely on in the kitchen. But what truly sets him apart is his genuine care for the people he serves. “Some chefs prefer to stay behind the kitchen walls, but I think it’s important to talk to the residents. I want them to feel comfortable with me.”

This approachable, resident-first attitude is at the heart of Chef Jackson’s success. “I love our residents,” he says. “They’ll come to me if they want something specific, and I always welcome their feedback. No matter what’s on the menu, my goal is to make sure they’re happy.”

His food is a hit, especially his famous BBQ ribs. The secret to his seasoning? That’s still under wraps. “I can’t give away my seasoning secrets,” he says with a grin. “But I will say that good smoke and char are non-negotiable when it comes to ribs.”

With Veterans Day and Thanksgiving approaching, Chef Jackson is already planning his holiday meals. “This year for Thanksgiving, we’re frying turkeys. Last year, we smoked them, but frying will be a new experience for a lot of our residents. I think they’re going to love it.”

The passion Chef Jackson brings to his work hasn’t gone unnoticed. Scott Logemann, General Manager of Holiday Southwind Heights, praises his abilities. “Reggie is incredibly dedicated to making sure our residents enjoy their meals. If someone doesn’t like a dish, he’ll make something else on the spot. He takes pride in everything he does.”

For Chef Reggie Jackson, cooking is about more than just preparing food – it’s about care, respect and a commitment to excellence, all values he honed during his Navy service.

This dedication not only shapes his culinary creations but also fosters a sense of community among the residents at Holiday Southwind Heights.
